The Big Blues Tribe 9.45pm start Full nine piece big blues orchestra led by top Midlands blues vocalist Oliver Carpenter and featuring four excellent vocalists and a full brass section. You get a big stage show and a big sound with The Tribe!
The Big Blues Tribe was booked for seven major blues festivals in 2007.
Memphis in the Meantime 8.10pm start Despite their well-deserved reputation as a good-time band, Memphis ITM has a flair for writing melodies and lyrics as well as grooves. They are a genre-defying group mixing blues, rockabilly, southern soul and rock ‘n’ roll into something that is truly their own. The band featured at some of the top UK blues Festivals in 2007 and have a new album out on the Blues Matters label.
Alma Latina 6.50pm start Alma-Latina lets British dance crowds rediscover the low-down sweaty grooves of pachanga, the bugalu, the watusi, the shing-a-ling and the dance vibes of nuyorican ‘50’s, ‘60’s and ‘70’s. Alma Latina (Latin Soul) goes right to the source with tunes by Ray Barretto, Joe Cuba, Eddie Palmieri and the other hard groove merchants which kept he dancefloors of Spanish Harlem full for 2 decades.
Mumbo-Jumbo 5.30pm start Acoustic blues-based mayhem is the best description of Mumbo-Jumbo. Three of the region’s top acoustic musicians provide fine performances of known, unknown and self penned songs in a bluesy, country, rootsy style.
Cracker & the Woodpeckers 4.10pm start Cracker and the Woodpeckers are the Midlands’ hottest jump jive, boogie-woogie, rock‘n’roll band party band. This explosive 4-piece phenomenon is driven by Cracker’s thundering and Big Jim’s buffoonery and antics at the front. This band is guaranteed to get a crypt jumping!
David Bristow 3.10pm start Next up we have solo blues artist Dave Bristow playing and singing in his own inimitable pre-war front porch style. Dave’s excellent songwriting and laid back delivery have brought positive comments including “A unique style - kinda reminds me of Lonnie Johnson”
The Arquettes - Nominated by BBC Hereford & Worcester Friday Sessions 2.10pm Start One of Worcester’s top up and coming bands, The Arquettes aren’t really blues but combine acoustic with pop, English with French, Nizlopi with Squeeze. Something really different to set up the day ahead!
The Blues Toones 1.20pm start To get the event underway, we have The Blues Toones. Husband and wife team Graham & Yvonne play the jazzier side of the blues with some boogie woogie piano thrown in! www.myspace.com/thebluestoones
Dave Reeves The programme will also include a series of short performances between the bands from Dave Reeves a performer poet and freereed player. He has variously been described as a folk poet, a ranter, a socio-political punk poet, and as making people choke on their beers with laughter. He accompanies his spoken word performances on bluesharp and melodeon, amongst other instruments. At times he uses these to give his work a ‘hokum’ feel, at others he creates droning soundscapes as background to his voice. |
